作者簡介

Voltaire (1694-1778) was the universal genius of the Enlightenment. In his early career he was briefly committed to the Bastille for his satires and later exiled to England. His most characteristic works are philosophical tales, of which Candide, written in 1759 is the most famous.

伏爾泰（Voltaire，1694年—1778年），法國著名思想家、哲學家、文學家、史學家，十八世紀法國資產階級啟蒙運動公認的領袖和導師，被譽為“法蘭西思想之父”。他一生著作頗豐，涉獵廣泛，在哲學和文學上造詣頗深，代表作有《哲學辭典》《查第格》和《老實人》。
